VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

On behalf of the Lazy Bear Board of Directors, we would like to thank you very much for volunteering at Lazy Bear Weekend. Lazy Bear simply could not happen without the generous support and hard work from our volunteers. Please read through this carefully, making sure you are fully informed of what is required to volunteer, before you sign up for your shifts.

As a Lazy Bear Weekend volunteer, you will be asked to sign a Lazy Bear Weekend Volunteer agreement either prior to or at your first shift. You can request a copy of the volunteer agreement in advance by email to Volunteer Coordinator Rich T. at bearpsych@aol.com. You will receive a Volunteer t-shirt, 1 bear tag and complimentary non-alcoholic beverages during the shift(s) that you work.

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of two (2) shifts which average 5 hours each. We use Volunteer Spot.com where you can sign up directly for the shifts and events that you want to work.

  1. Each event will have a Team Captain, who will check you in and provide a brief orientation to your event and duties when you arrive for your shift. If questions, issues or concerns arise during your shift, your Team Captain can assist you. A list of team captains will be available on the Lazy Bear Website prior to the event. An additional copy will be available at the 2012 Lazy Bear Headquarters at the Sonoma Nesting Company on Main Street in Guerneville.
  2. Be prompt: Plan to arrive for your shift at least 5 minutes before the actual start time. We do not have the luxury of having 'back-ups' if you are late. If you are going to be late or are unable to report for your shift, contact your Team Captain as soon as possible.
  3. Be flexible: occasionally volunteers are asked to assist with duties other than what they are assigned to during their shift.
  4. Smoking, drinking alcohol or drug use is strictly prohibited during your shift time. Additionally, remember that Lazy Bear Weekend has a zero-tolerance policy on recreational drug use throughout the weekend.
  5. Giving away free admission, food, beverages, raffle tickets, event tickets, merchandise or other material of value which is the property of the Lazy Bear Fund is considered a form of theft and will be treated as such.
  6. If you have an interest in being a TEAM CAPTAIN, please send email to: bearpsych@aol.com with the words 'Team Captain' in the subject line.

And finally.please read this change to our policy regarding volunteers!!

POLICY CHANGE FOR LBW-2012

In years' prior, we have given out free bear tags to volunteers at their first shift with the good-faith understanding that they would return to complete their agreed-upon second shift. Sadly, there has been a large number of people who have not returned for their second shift once they receive their free tag. Due to an inordinate number of volunteer no-shows last year, he have had to institute the following change regarding distribution of free-tags.

Beginning this year, volunteers will be required to either purchase their tag upfront or provide credit/debit card information with their signed Volunteer Agreement. At the completion of their second shift, purchasers will receive a voucher for immediate refund of their tag purchase price. Those who leave credit/debit information will receive that portion of their Volunteer Agreement back at the end of their second shift. Failure to show up for the second shift will result in being charged for the bear tag. Here is how these two options look in a little more detail:

OPTION 1: You buy your bear tag either online (lazybearweekend.com) or in person at Lazy Bear Weekend Headquarters. KEEP YOUR RECIEPT! Once you have completed your second shift, you will receive a voucher for refund of your bear tag purchase price. Take the voucher AND your purchase receipt to the Lazy Bear Weekend Headquarters, and you will be refunded the price you paid for the tag.

OPTION 2: If you prefer not to purchase a tag outright, or do not have the means to do so, you will receive your tag after signing your Volunteer Agreement. You must provide either debit or credit card information on the bottom portion of the Volunteer Agreement in order to receive your tag. At the end of the second shift, the bottom portion of the Volunteer Agreement with the credit/debit card information will be returned to you. Failure to show up for your second shift will result in being charged 125.00 for the bear tag.

If you are not able to show up for your assigned shifts, it is your responsibility to notify the Volunteer Coordinator. Personal or family medical emergency with documentation are extenuating circumstances. In this instance, you would not be charged after providing documentation to the Volunteer Coordinator.

Lazy Bear Weekend has always been very proud of our volunteer force, which has been instrumental in allowing us to put the "FUN" in Northern California largest FUNdraising weekend for the last fourteen years. Remember that it's your hard work and participation that will directly benefit health and health-oriented organizations throughout the region. We literally couldn't do it without you.
